Juan Fuentes Of Deerfield Beach Passed Away

DEERFIELD BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — An 84-year-old man was run over by a truck while walking near gas pumps at a Deerfield Beach gas station.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Traffic Homicide Unit detectives are investigating a fatal crash that killed an 84-year-old man on Tuesday morning in Deerfield Beach.

Just before 4 a.m. on April 11, Broward Regional Communications received a call regarding a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian at a Wawa gas station located at 20 S.W. 12th Ave. in Deerfield Beach. BSO deputies responded and immediately began life-saving measures on the pedestrian. Paramedics with Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue also responded and pronounced the pedestrian deceased on the scene.

The preliminary investigation reveals that the pedestrian, Juan Fuentes, was walking through the parking lot near the fuel pumps when the driver of a 2018 Ford F-250 pickup truck, Bryan Handy, entered the parking lot and was maneuvering to a fuel pump. At that time, the driver struck the pedestrian. Following the crash, the driver remained on the scene.

According to investigators, neither impairment nor excessive speed appears to be contributing factors in this crash. The investigation is ongoing.
