Every day on February 27th of the year 2025 members of the Broward Sheriff’s Office are called to accidents that could have been avoided if certain precautions were taken. These accidents are often caused by speeding, violations of traffic lights and drivers being distracted. According to Lt.JC Barros from the BSO Regional Traffic Unit among these factors distracting driving has emerged as the hazardous with an uptick, in people texting while driving. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that distracted driving led to the deaths of 3,308 individuals in 2022. BSO advises drivers to refrain from texting while driving or getting involved in any actions that may cause them to lose focus on the road. Lieutenant Barros emphasized the importance by stating, “A quick look, at your phone could lead to a fatality.” He urged drivers to set their phones drive at a safe speed, fasten their seat belts, and come to a complete stop as needed. Remember, ensuring road safety begins with each one of us!
