Tragedy struck when a teenager of 16 lost their life in a collision involving vehicles in Pompano Beach recently as detectives from Broward Sheriffs Office Traffic Homicide Unit delve into the details of this unfortunate event that occurred around 8 p.m. Friday night of June 20th at West Copans Road in Broward County where emergency services were alerted due to a car fire, amidst multiple vehicle wreckage. Investigators stated that the initial inquiry indicated that a 2019 Mercedes Benz CLA 250 driven by a 16 year male was heading west on West Copans Road nearing Leisure Boulevard when a 2021 Toyota Sienna driven by an 82 year old male was traveling south on Leisure Boulevard toward West Copans Road simultaneously Thereafter the Toyota made a left turn resulting in a collision, with the Mercedes. The crash made the 16 year old driver lose control of the Mercedes car which flipped over onto its roof while sliding southwest on the road and entering the way of eastbound vehicles where it hit a 2015 Lexus RX 350 SUV. Furthermore a 2021 Toyota RAV4 SUV was also heading east on West Copans Road. Got hit by debris when the Mercedes slid past it. Deputies at the scene acted swiftly by administering life saving procedures until the Pompano Beach Fire Rescue team arrived and took all occupants of the Mercedes and Lexus to a hospital for medical care. Unfortunately the 16 year old driver of the Mercedes was pronounced dead. Thankfully the drivers of the Toyota Sienna and Toyota RAV4 were unharmed. Stayed at the scene to assist investigators. Initial findings suggest that high speed might have played a role in causing the accident. The investigation, into what led to the crash is still ongoing.
