BROWARD COUNTY, FL (Boca Post) — The Broward County Sheriff’s Office put out a press release on Monday afternoon publicly declaring their policy on not endorsing political candidates.

Why would the Sheriff’s Office need to remind people that the law enforcement organization does not officially endorse political candidates? Well, that is because a local candidate for the school board election in Broward County recently announced that she was endorsed by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office on social media, according to BSO.

BSO says it was brought to this agency’s attention that a candidate for local political office recently posted the BSO Sheriff’s star logo on social media and improperly stated that the agency had endorsed the candidate.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office is a unit of local government and never endorses political candidates or organizations.

Further, the Broward Sheriff’s Office logo is for official agency use only. Its use by any other person or organization is not authorized nor is it an endorsement of such persons or organizations.

The post has since then been deleted; however, Boca Post was able to confirm that it originated from Donna Pilger Korn’s campaign for a seat on the Broward County School Board.

Boca Post was able to locate a screenshot of the alleged post:

The post originally stated “So unbelievably grateful to earn the endorsement of the Broward Sheriff’s Office as the right choice to keep your children safe and secure. I am dedicated to keeping our schools on the leading edge of safety. Our partnership with the amazing officers that serve our community is a major part of that matrix. Thank you very much for what you do – day in and day out – to keep our community safe.”

It is unclear why Korn’s campaign decided to share the post on social media; however, Broward Sheriff’s Office has made it perfectly clear, that they do not endorse any candidates.
