25-9-22 Date: Sept. 29, 2025 Local non-profit organizations are essential in fortifying communities, enhancing safety, and elevating the quality of life for residents throughout Broward County. To bolster these initiatives, Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony and the dedicated personnel of the Broward Sheriff’s Office will allocate $920,000 from the Law Enforcement Trust Funds (LETF). This year, 92 programs will benefit from this funding, with 26 organizations marking their inaugural award. BSO will present the funds during a significant check presentation ceremony from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center in Fort Lauderdale. LETF funds originate from the seizure and forfeiture of contraband involved in the commission of a felony. State law permits law enforcement agencies to reinvest these resources back into the community. Through the LETF program, nonprofit organizations in good standing with active charitable 501(c)(3) status that serve residents in Broward County can apply for funding and receive $10,000 in grant support. The 2025–2026 recipients encompass a diverse range of programs that fulfill statutory LETF requirements, such as crime prevention, drug abuse education, and neighborhood safety, while also backing Sheriff Dr. Tony’s primary initiatives: steering youth away from the criminal justice system, curbing gun violence, and offering services for the homeless and individuals dealing with mental health issues.
