Deputy-Involved Shooting

At approximately 5:49 p.m., Broward County Regional Communications received reports of a suspicious person at East Oakland Park Boulevard and Northeast Sixth Avenue in Oakland Park. Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies responded and made contact with an adult male armed with a weapon. According to investigators, the subject refused several commands to put the weapon down. Deputies deployed multiple less than lethal weapons in an attempt to subdue the individual. However, the subject ran towards BSO deputies, and units were forced to fire their weapons. Oakland Park Fire Rescue responded and transported the subject to an area hospital for treatment. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the circumstances of the shooting. BSO’s Internal Affairs Unit will conduct an internal investigation.

All lanes on East Oakland Park Boulevard between Northeast Sixth Avenue and Northeast Fifth Terrace are shut down until further notice.
