At approximately 11:57 p.m., on Monday, Feb. 16, Broward County Regional Communications was notified of a deputy involved crash near West Prospect Road and Northwest 31st Avenue in Tamarac.
According to investigators, the crash involved a stolen vehicle out of Margate. Detectives say a Be On The Lookout (BOLO) was issued earlier that night by Margate Police Department regarding the stolen vehicle, which was spotted in the City of Tamarac.
At some point, a crash occurred involving a BSO patrol car and a civilian vehicle. A second crash involving the suspect’s vehicle occured a short period later. The suspect was then taken into custody.
The deputy, the civilian driver, a passenger in the civilian vehicle and the suspect were transported to an area hospital for treatment. The civilian driver was later pronounced deceased. The other individuals involved sustained non life-threatening injuries. Detectives with BSO’s Traffic Homicide and Violent Crimes Units were notified to investigate.
BSO’s Internal Affairs Unit has opened an administrative investigation into the incident.
The investigation continues.
