Authorities from the Broward Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit apprehended a BSO Detention Deputy on Monday for charges of aggravated battery and domestic battery following an incident in Dania Beach at 7;20 a.m on April 7 as reported by Broward County Regional Communications after receiving a call about a disturbance in the area.Deputies arrived at the scene. Engaged with David Powell who disclosed that he had been involved in a verbal dispute, with an adult female companion.Investigators later discovered that Powell had physically harmed the woman during the altercation. The inquiry found that Powell aggressively struck the victim on the face and ear so hard that she lost her hearing in one ear and repeatedly hit her with a belt causing injuries that needed hospital care at a local hospital facility. Throughout the investigation process the victim also revealed episodes of physical violence by Powell dating back to March 2024. As a result of this probe, into incidents,a matter which led to additional charges being brought against Powell. In total Powell is charged with three counts of aggravated battery a count of felony battery and four counts of domestic battery. He got taken into custody and was brought to Broward County Main Jail following the issuance of a risk protection order against Powell; law enforcement officers seized firearms from him as well.” Domestic violence is always unacceptable and a concern that jeopardizes the safety and welfare of individuals and families ” remarked Broward Sheriff Dr.Gregory Tony.” Whenever any member of our community commits a crime – even employees of this department. They will be held responsible, for their actions ” he added.” Those affected by violence should remember that they have support and are not alone.””If you or someone you’re acquainted with is experiencing domestic violence issues and needs assistance ” Powell was brought on board by BSO on December 6th of year and is presently, on unpaid administrative leave.”
