BROWARD COUNTY, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) — Two Broward Health hospitals have once again landed at the top of a national patient safety scorecard, with Broward Health North and Broward Health Coral Springs each earning an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit that rates hospitals across the country on how well they protect patients from harm, errors and injuries, according to a news release from the health system.
The new Fall 2025 grades mark continued recognition for patient safety, especially at Broward Health North. The 409-bed hospital has now received four consecutive “A” ratings, hospital officials said in the announcement.
“This is the fourth consecutive ‘A’ grade for our 409-bed hospital, and it reflects our team’s unwavering focus on safety and continuous improvement,” Matt Garner, CEO of Broward Health North, said in the statement. “We take great pride in knowing that our community can trust us to provide care in an environment where patient safety always comes first.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses more than 30 national performance measures to rate how well hospitals prevent medical errors, infections and injuries. The “A” grade is the highest mark available under the program and is reserved for hospitals that show an exceptional commitment to preventing avoidable harm and protecting patients during their stay, according to the release.
Broward Health Coral Springs also returned to the top tier with an “A” grade in the latest report. Its chief executive credited frontline staff and caregivers for the consistent performance.
“We are thrilled to once again receive an ‘A’ from The Leapfrog Group. It underscores that patient safety is our top priority,” Kristen Bowman, CEO of Broward Health Coral Springs, said in the announcement. “This recognition reflects the dedication of our caregivers, who consistently deliver safe and high-quality care to every patient.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only national hospital ratings program that focuses exclusively on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that contribute to the deaths of more than 500 patients a day in the United States, Broward Health noted. Grades are released twice a year, in the spring and fall, and the ratings are free and publicly available to help patients and families compare hospital performance.
Broward Health, founded in 1938 and headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, is one of the 10 largest public healthcare systems in the country. The system includes five hospitals, two trauma centers and more than 50 health centers and physician practices that cover a wide range of specialties, according to its website.
The health system also operates a growing graduate medical education program through an academic partnership with Florida Atlantic University and was Broward County’s first statutory teaching hospital, the system said.
Backed by more than 11,000 employees and physicians, Broward Health reports an annual operating budget of $1.8 billion and provides almost $500 million a year in charity and uncompensated care, underscoring its role as one of the county’s largest employers and a major safety-net provider.
