BOYNTON BEACH, FL (Boca Post) — Police Chief of Boynton Beach Police Department is resigning his spot as the city’s top cop and he only provided 1 week’s notice.

Chief Michael Gregory announced his resignation today and gave the city only a week’s notice saying his last day will be April 22nd, 2022. Chief Gregory says he wishes to resign so he can focus on other areas of his life.

“I am very proud of the many accomplishments achieved with the outstanding women and men in the Boynton Beach Police Department during my nearly 4-year tenure.” Chief Gregory said. “I greatly appreciate the opportunity provided to me to lead the department and the leadership of City Manager Lori LaVerriere.”

City Manager LaVerriere has appointed Deputy Chief Vanessa Snow as the interim Police Chief for the time being.

“I am truly thankful for Chief Gregory’s service to the Boynton Beach community and wish him nothing but great success in his future,” City Manager LaVerriere said.

This resignation comes just a week after reports surfaced about a possible PBSO takeover. With recent elections changing leadership in the City of Boynton Beach, the commission is now entertaining the idea of a PBSO takeover.

PBC Police Benevolent Association president, John Kazanjian, issued a statement about a possible PBSO takeover:

The overwhelming majority of our members at the Boynton Beach Police Department support a future merger because it would provide them with better wages, enhanced benefits, a better relationship with management, increased respect, and better protections for their rights as law enforcement officers.
