BOYNTON BEACH, FL — The park's new address is not a coincidence. It's a badge number.
The Boynton Beach Police Department on Saturday dedicated a new address for Officer Joseph Crowder Park and Dog Park — 792 Renaissance Commons Blvd. — chosen to match the badge number of the late BBPD officer the park honors.
The ceremony was held at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 11, at the park, according to the department.
Officer Crowder was a BBPD officer, a K-9 handler and a U.S. Army veteran, according to the department. Boynton Beach police described the address change as "a lasting tribute to Officer Crowder's badge number and the legacy of service, courage and sacrifice he left behind."
Mayor Rebecca Shelton spoke at the dedication. "Today we gathered to honor the life and service of Officer Joseph Crowder," Shelton said in a statement released by the city. "We remember him not only for his dedication to our community, but also for the passion he brought to every run and every day on the job."
Shelton said the park is meant to serve as "a lasting tribute to his legacy, a place where families, pets, and neighbors can come together and enjoy our beautiful city."
The park is located in the Renaissance Commons area of Boynton Beach in Palm Beach County. The address change formalizes the tribute at a physical location residents already use as a dog park.
In a post following the ceremony, the department thanked Officer Crowder's family, fellow officers and community members who attended. The department said the dedication "ensures Officer Crowder's legacy of service, courage and sacrifice will continue to be remembered for generations to come."
The Boynton Beach Police Department did not include in its posts a summary of the circumstances of Officer Crowder's death or the date he died. Boca Post has not independently confirmed those details from the material provided.
