BOYNTON BEACH, FL — The white van was already part of another case.
As Boynton Beach Police were responding to a bank robbery at the Chase Bank on North Congress Avenue, dispatchers learned that a white Sprinter-style van had just been reported stolen out of Greenacres, according to police and court records.
By later that afternoon, police say, 59-year-old Clifford Randell Montague was in custody in Palm Beach.
Montague was arrested Thursday, June 11, 2026, after Boynton Beach Police say he robbed the Chase Bank at 4740 North Congress Avenue, taking more than $10,000 before leaving in a white van.
According to the Boynton Beach Police Department, employees told officers the suspect entered the bank around 12:40 p.m., demanded money and threatened employees if they did not comply. The employees gave him more than $10,000, police said.
The probable cause affidavit says officers were told the suspect was a man in his 60s wearing a gray shirt with a graphic on the back who may have fled in a white Ford van.
While officers were on the way, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office advised Boynton Beach Police that a 2021 white Ford Transit van had been reported stolen from the 5000 block of Lake Worth Road in Greenacres, according to the affidavit.
Investigators later reviewed surveillance video from the Chase Bank, according to the affidavit.
The video showed a white Ford Transit van pulling up in front of the bank at about 12:34 p.m., police wrote. A man wearing a dark shirt with a graphic on the back, long dark shorts and light-colored sunglasses got out of the driver’s seat while carrying a white garbage bag in his right hand, according to the affidavit.
Police say the man approached a teller, waited in line, then placed the white bag on the counter. The teller later told investigators the man indicated he needed money and warned he would get mad, according to the affidavit.
The affidavit says the teller activated a panic alarm while giving the man money from the register. The man then moved to another teller station, pointed at the counter and received additional cash, police wrote.
A bank operations leader later told investigators the approximate loss was $10,634, according to the affidavit.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Apprehension Team located the suspect vehicle at about 1:41 p.m. as it pulled into 250 South Ocean Boulevard in Palm Beach, according to the affidavit. Agents stopped the van and took Montague into custody.
Police say Montague was still wearing clothing matching the bank surveillance footage. Investigators also found his pants stuffed with cash, according to the affidavit.
Two Chase Bank employees later positively identified Montague during a show-up identification, police wrote.
Crime scene investigators processed the vehicle. According to the affidavit, $10,304 was recovered from Montague’s person and the suspect vehicle.
Montague was taken to Boynton Beach Police booking, where detectives interviewed him. Police say Montague provided a post-Miranda statement confessing to the bank robbery.
Boynton Beach Police charged Montague with robbery and grand theft. Police said PBSO also charged him with grand theft of a motor vehicle, burglary and driving without a license.
Palm Beach County jail records show Montague was booked on June 11, 2026, and was being held at the Main Detention Center with no release date listed. The jail record lists current bonds of $100,000 for robbery, $50,000 for grand theft property valued between $10,000 and $20,000, $50,000 for grand theft of a motor vehicle, $10,000 for operating a motor vehicle without a valid license as a second conviction, and $25,000 for burglary of an unoccupied conveyance.
The charges are allegations. Montague is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
This case is part of broader Boynton Beach arrest activity reported by police.
