87-Year-Old Sherman Rogers Passed Away In Boynton Beach Crash

BOYNTON BEACH, FL — An 87-year-old man is dead after a deadly Boynton Beach crash.

The deadly crash happened near Military Trail and Royal Palm Drive in unincorporated Boynton Beach just after 1PM on Monday, September 18th, 2023.

Sherman Rogers was driving a Honda CR-V northbound in the left turn lane on Military Trail at the intersection with Royal Palm Dr. At the same time, Sophia-Rose Pontino was driving a Ford F-150 southbound in the outside lane of Military Trail approaching the intersection with Royal Palm Dr. Rogers began to make a U-turn in front of Pontino. The front of Pontino impacted the passenger’s side rear of Rogers’ CR-V. Pontino’s truck was redirected in a southeast direction and came to rest in the inside lane south of the intersection. Rogers’ car then rotated clockwise 180 degrees and rolled backwards in a southwest direction and came to rest on the west shoulder.

Rogers was transported to Delray Medical Center with critical injuries and Pontino was transported with minor injuries.
