BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Boca Raton drivers are being routed away from Spanish River Boulevard at A1A Friday evening after a bridge malfunction shut down traffic in both directions.

In a non-emergency traffic advisory, the Boca Raton Police Department said the westbound and eastbound lanes at Spanish River Blvd/A1A are closed due to a bridge malfunction. The department advised motorists to seek an alternate route.

The alert was sent at 5:56 p.m. EDT on April 18, 2026.

The closure affects a key connection between Spanish River Boulevard and State Road A1A, a corridor that carries local traffic and beach-bound drivers through Boca Raton. With both westbound and eastbound lanes closed at the intersection, drivers should expect detours and delays in the area and plan extra time if they normally use Spanish River Boulevard to reach A1A.

Boca Raton Police is the agency issuing the advisory and directing drivers to avoid the area. The advisory did not include an estimated time for reopening, details on the nature of the malfunction, or whether traffic is being diverted through specific nearby streets.

What happens next will depend on when the bridge malfunction is resolved and when the roadway can be reopened. Residents and commuters should watch for updated traffic advisories from Boca Raton Police and be prepared to adjust routes until the closure is lifted.

For now, the department’s guidance is simple: avoid Spanish River Blvd/A1A and use an alternate route.
