BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — A familiar name in Boca Raton’s fire service was recognized under the lights at FAU Stadium during one of the city’s biggest annual sporting events.

Retired Boca Raton Fire Rescue Captain Aaron Fix was named a recipient of the 2025 Honor a Responder award, presented during the Boca Raton Bowl (of beans) at FAU Stadium. The recognition occurred in front of viewers who watched the game on national television while the local spectators witnessed the event. The award directly connected to this annual city event which took place during that game.

Fix dedicated his 33-year career to Boca Raton Fire Rescue where he served as a firefighter who provided emergency services and guidance to others and supported firefighters throughout their careers. The department reported that his work activities reached further than his direct phone duties because he trained upcoming agency leaders and built better relationships between the department and its served community.

During his tenure, Fix was active in the Firefighter and Paramedic Benevolent, an organization that supports firefighters and their families. The department recognizes his vital contribution to maintaining the support system during his time at work when he received multiple awards because of his field-based patient care that demonstrated compassion. His firefighting work commitment spread into his family life because his two sons followed his path to become firefighters.

The award was presented as part of the Boca Raton Bowl, held at FAU Stadium. The bowl game has evolved into a local event which now attracts national TV broadcasts to show Boca Raton to a wider audience throughout December.

The Honor a Responder award is tied to a national recognition effort supported through ESPN and SERVPRO. SERVPRO continues its partnership with ESPN to honor first responders who show outstanding commitment to their communities through major sporting events. The program features two recognition programs which honor exceptional service that typically takes place without public awareness.

The Boca Raton Fire Rescue department used this event to recognize one person while showing their value to all citizens of the city. Public officials stated that Fix's story demonstrates why officials need to recognize public service work because it involves extensive work hours and dangerous conditions and unappreciated dedication.

Fix received national recognition because he followed a professional career path as a Boca Raton firefighter which led him to participate in national dialogues about public safety and civic service. The department ended his official service but his professional heritage lives on because he trained numerous firefighters who now serve and his family members joined the firefighting profession.

The department considers this award as a source of pride which honors Fix together with the city and all residents who Boca Raton Fire Rescue has protected since the 1980s.
