UPDATE

The state attorney has dropped all charges surrounding this incident. The state attorney says that while probable cause did exist to arrest Janzen, there was a lack of evidence to support a criminal prosecution of the case.

BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) — Martin Janzen of Boca Raton has been arrested and charged with child abuse, according to jail records released to Boca Post by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

Martin Janzen, 49, of the 2000 block of Federal Highway in Boca Raton, has been arrested early Monday morning by the Boca Raton Police Department. Boca Post has been notified that the charge filed is “CRUELTY TOWARD CHILD – ABUSE CHILD WITHOUT GREAT BODILY HARM”.

According to an arrest report submitted by the Boca Raton Police Department, Janzen is accused of child abuse because of bruises seen on the female victim’s legs. The victim says Marty is nice to her but that she believes it is fake.

One of the bruises observed by law enforcement officers appeared to be from a fingerprint, such as from a hand grabbing the leg.

When officers spoke with a 10-year-old boy in the custody of Janzen, he was asked about visible bruises on his legs and the girl’s legs, the boy responded  “he’s not abusive”.

It is worth noting that the address Janzen provided to law enforcement as his place of domicile is the address of a local hotel in Boca Raton. According to the police report, Janzen has lived at the hotel for the last two years.

If his name sounds familiar, it’s because Marty Janzen was a professional baseball player in the MLB for about 14 years. The Florida native played Baseball for Gainesville High School and later signed with the New York Yankees as a free agent in 1991.

Janzen is known for being part of what is known to part of one of the most lopsided trade deadline deals in the history of the MLB. Janzen was, of course, one of the “best prospects in the Yankees’ system” at the time of that trade the Yankees completed with the Blue Jays for David Cone.

Janzen stopped playing professionally in 2005 and has held several coaching and recruiting positions since, according to a LinkedIn profile in the name of “Marty Janzen”.

Janzen was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail at 6:57 on Monday morning.
