BOCA RATON, FL — Eastbound and southbound lanes at Dixie Highway and Southwest 18th Street were closed Friday afternoon because of an accident, according to a traffic advisory from the Boca Raton Police Department.

The advisory was sent as a non-emergency alert at 1:01 p.m. Friday, June 20. Police did not release details on injuries, vehicles involved, or how long the closures were expected to last.

The closure affects traffic moving eastbound and southbound at the Dixie Highway and Southwest 18th Street area, a corridor that carries local traffic through Boca Raton and connects drivers to nearby neighborhoods and businesses. With lanes shut down, drivers should expect delays and congestion in the immediate area as traffic is diverted.

Boca Raton Police advised motorists to seek an alternate route.

The Boca Raton Police Department is the agency issuing the advisory and is responsible for traffic direction and roadway safety at the scene within city limits. No other agencies were identified in the alert.

What happens next will depend on the on-scene response and the work required to clear the crash and reopen the roadway. Police did not provide an estimated time for reopening in the advisory.

Residents and commuters who regularly use Dixie Highway or Southwest 18th Street should plan for detours and extra travel time in the area until lanes reopen. Drivers approaching the intersection should follow posted signs and any directions from officers or traffic control devices, and avoid the area if possible.

Updates were not included in the initial alert. Boca Raton Police typically issues follow-up traffic advisories as conditions change.
