Today's Weather - Sunday, May 3, 2026
BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Sunday will feel very different than Saturday, with thicker clouds, a cooler breeze, and a much higher chance of rain. Showers and thunderstorms are likely this afternoon and into the evening, and a few storms could drop heavy rain in a short time. High temperatures top out near 80, with winds turning north and then northeast later today. Keep an eye on the sky if you have outdoor plans, especially after lunchtime through early tonight
South Florida is in the middle of a quick pattern flip this weekend, and Boca Raton will notice it today. After Saturday’s sunshine, gusty south winds, and near-record heat, a front has pushed south through the peninsula overnight.
Behind it, winds turn north to northeast and the air mass is cooler at the surface—but the atmosphere above us is still loaded with moisture. The National Weather Service notes that moisture is “pooling” along and just north of the front, with humidity levels in the atmosphere near the high end for early May.
That matters because once the morning “cap” breaks (the usual early-day stability that keeps storms from forming), showers and thunderstorms can develop more easily this afternoon. Another ingredient arrives later today into tonight: a disturbance aloft that adds lift and helps storms organize.
Even though we’re on the cooler side of the front, there should still be enough energy for scattered to numerous storms to pop, especially along the east coast metro. Forecast confidence is highest that Boca Raton sees multiple rounds of rain, but there’s still uncertainty on where the heaviest corridor sets up—right along the coast, or just offshore over the Gulf Stream.
For boaters and beachgoers, conditions trend rougher on the Atlantic side. Today, winds shift NW to N around 10–15 knots, then NE tonight, with Atlantic seas 3–5 feet (occasionally near 6 feet).
On Monday, NE winds increase to 15–20 knots and seas build to 4–6 feet, with occasional 8-foot sets offshore—especially where the north wind pushes against the Gulf Stream. Thunderstorms can create sudden higher winds and steep waves.
Expect choppier intracoastal conditions at times, and use extra caution near inlets. With the onshore component increasing Monday, the surf and rip current risk may trend higher even if it isn’t formally posted.
