BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Wednesday, April 8, 2026 BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Showers and thunderstorms are likely today, with the steadiest activity favoring the coast and the potential for a few rounds of heavy rain. A Flood Watch remains in effect for the east coast metro areas through 10 PM, and localized street flooding is possible in poor-drainage spots. Expect a breezy northeast wind with gusts around 20–25 mph, keeping it cooler than usual with highs in the upper 70s. Beach conditions are hazardous: high surf and a high rip current risk continue, and boating conditions remain rough to dangerous
South Florida is stuck in a very moist, coastal-focused rain pattern today, and Boca Raton is right in the zone. The National Weather Service says a deep plume of moisture is still in place over the southern half of the peninsula, and the atmosphere is “saturated” enough to support efficient downpours.
In plain terms: when showers and storms form, they can dump a lot of rain in a short time. The main trigger today is the onshore wind.
A strong high pressure system to our north is driving a brisk northeast breeze over the warm Atlantic, and that wind tends to “pile up” moisture right along the coastline. That coastal squeeze is why the most persistent showers are expected near the Atlantic metro areas, including Palm Beach County.
Forecast guidance suggests scattered to numerous showers through the day, with thunderstorms becoming more likely at times. The Weather Service notes a setup that could allow some storms to linger near the coast instead of moving along quickly.
Boating conditions remain hazardous today through at least Friday evening. For the Boca Raton area waters, northeast to east winds strengthen into the 20–25 knot range with higher gusts, and seas build to 7–10 feet today, rising to 9–12 feet tonight with occasional higher sets.
Even the Intracoastal can turn rough to very rough in exposed areas. For the coast, the onshore wind and large surf will keep a high rip current risk in place through Friday, and breakers can be large and powerful.
If you’re heading to the beach, stay out of the water unless you’re near a staffed lifeguard and conditions are clearly safe; for small craft, consider postponing trips until seas subside.
