BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — Syracuse University and South Florida (USF) to compete in the 2023 Boca Raton Bowl.

Syracuse University (SU) and South Florida (USF) are scheduled to face off in the 2023 RoofClaim.com Boca Raton Bowl on December 21 at 8;00 p.m. ET. The game will take place at Florida Atlantic University Stadium in Boca Raton, Fla. It’s a special occasion as the bowl celebrates its 10th anniversary and will be broadcasted nationally on ESPN, with ESPN Radio covering it as well, including ESPN 106.3 locally.

“We are thrilled to welcome the University of South Florida and Syracuse University to Boca Raton and Palm Beach County as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the bowl this year,” said RoofClaim.com Boca Raton Bowl Executive Director Doug Mosley. “Their participation adds a new level of excitement to our event, and we look forward to hosting an unforgettable matchup that is sure to showcase the spirit of collegiate football in our communities,” added Mosley.

The matchup features Syracuse University (6-6 overall, 2-6 Atlantic Coast Conference) and the University of South Florida (6-6 overall, 4-4 American Athletic Conference). Interestingly, these teams were once rivals in the Big East conference. This marks their debut appearance in the Boca Raton Bowl.

The Syracuse Orange football team concluded their 2023 season with a conference record of 2 6, securing the 11th position in the Atlantic Coast Conference rankings. Over the years, they have participated in a total of 27 bowl games and have maintained a solid record of six wins out of their last ten appearances from 1997 to 2022.

On the other hand, the South Florida Bulls finished fifth in the American Athletic Conference standings and have an impressive track record of winning six out of their previous ten bowl games. Their football program has achieved significant progress this year by improving five wins compared to last season—an achievement that stands as one of their best turnarounds ever recorded in program history alongside Liberty’s undefeated streak (13 0) within Football Bowl Subdivision this year.
Syracuse University and the University of South Florida were both members of the Big East Conference in the past and have faced each other a total of 10 times. Currently, the Bulls have won 8 out of those 10 matches against the Orange, with their most recent game taking place at Syracuse in 2016. This upcoming bowl game will mark the first time these two teams compete against each other.
