BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — A Delray Beach man is facing felony charges after Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office deputies say a robbery attempt escalated into a gunfire exchange in a parking lot near a Boca Raton shopping plaza along South State Road 7.

Ca’vantaevis Ty’re Guy, 21, was arrested March 5 following the incident near the Target plaza at 22029 South State Road 7, according to arrest records and court filings in Palm Beach County. Guy is charged with armed robbery with a firearm and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The case is filed in Palm Beach County Circuit Court as Case No. 50-2026-CF-001665-AXXX-MB. Court records show the defendant appeared before a judge for first appearance proceedings on March 6 and remains in custody.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched shortly after 10 a.m. on March 5 after multiple 911 callers reported gunfire in the area of the shopping plaza. Callers told dispatchers several men were shooting at each other while running between vehicles in the parking lot.

Witness descriptions provided to deputies identified one of the individuals as a man wearing an orange-red hooded sweatshirt and black pants standing near an electric bicycle. Investigators later identified that person as Guy.

Another individual at the scene, identified as Jakobe Lewis, was also located by deputies. Lewis was detained after deputies discovered he had a Glock 17 handgun in his possession, according to the affidavit.

Deputies soon located Guy riding an electric bicycle southbound on South State Road 7 just after the reported shooting. Investigators say Guy was found carrying a Glock 45 semiautomatic pistol and was taken into custody.

Detectives later determined the gunfire stemmed from a robbery attempt moments earlier.

Investigators say Lewis had been walking home from the Target plaza when two suspects approached him in the parking lot. Lewis told deputies the suspects ran toward him, causing him to fall to the ground, and he recalled being repeatedly punched during the encounter. Lewis told investigators he also believed one of the suspects struck him with a firearm during the confrontation.

Lewis said his iPhone 13 fell from his pocket during the struggle and was taken by the suspects. After retrieving a handgun from his backpack, Lewis began firing in what he described as self-defense as the suspects fled through the parking lot.

Investigators said both Lewis and Guy fired multiple rounds while taking cover behind vehicles in the parking lot. Several vehicles and one nearby residence were struck by gunfire during the exchange, according to the affidavit.

Despite the gunfire, detectives determined no one sustained gunshot wounds. Lewis suffered injuries from the earlier physical altercation and was transported to Boca West Hospital for treatment.

Surveillance footage later captured Guy discarding Lewis’ stolen phone into a brush line before attempting to leave the area on the electric bicycle, investigators wrote. The video also showed Guy removing a firearm from a cross-body bag during the incident, according to deputies.

Investigators say Guy also tossed the firearm before being detained by responding deputies.

A second individual initially detained at the scene, identified as Ca’ReZ Lopez, was not seen on surveillance video firing a weapon and was later released pending further investigation, according to the affidavit.

During a later interview at the sheriff’s office Violent Crimes division, detectives said Guy declined to provide a statement and invoked his constitutional rights.

Court records show a judge found probable cause for the charges and set a $25,000 bond on the firearm possession count. The armed robbery charge carries no bond under the initial order. The court also issued a no-contact order with the victim as part of the conditions.
