NORTH LAUDERDALE, FL (Boca Post) — A man is dead after an altercation escalated into a shooting outside of a Taco Bell in North Lauderdale late on Christmas Eve.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, members of the V.I.P.E.R. (Violence Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response) Unit arrested a man suspected of shooting two men outside a North Lauderdale fast food restaurant, killing one of them. The suspect has been identified as 22-year-old Brandon Martin.

Just before 11 p.m. on Dec. 24, Broward Regional Communications received a call regarding a shooting at 7120 W. McNab Road in North Lauderdale. BSO deputies responded along with North Lauderdale Fire Rescue. On scene, deputies located two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Paramedics transported both individuals to Broward Health Medical Center for treatment.

One of the victims, identified as 34-year-old Renel Sintira, was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The other victim, 25-year-old Diomonte Jean, was treated for his injuries and is expected to survive.

The investigation revealed that Martin and Jean were known to one another and engaged in a verbal altercation at the location. At some point, Martin produced a firearm and fired multiple rounds. Jean was struck as well as Sintira. Detectives said Sintira does not appear to have any connection to Martin or Jean.

On Dec. 25, homicide detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Martin, and V.I.P.E.R. detectives located Martin and arrested him. Martin is facing charges of first-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder. Detectives say Martin confessed to the crime.
