BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — A Boca Raton Police Department arrest late last month escalated from a roadside incident on Federal Highway into a second criminal charge involving an officer, according to court records.

Police arrested Jaimie Leanne Borys, 30, on the night of Dec. 26 after officers responded to reports of a woman walking in the roadway along South Federal Highway while holding a hammer. The incident happened near 867 South Federal Highway, just south of Palmetto Park Road.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officers were dispatched around 9:51 p.m. after multiple calls reported a female swinging a hammer at vehicles and juveniles in the area. One caller told police the woman was approaching cars stopped on the roadway. Officers noted a similar call had come in roughly three hours earlier involving a woman matching the same description, but no contact was made at that time.

When officers arrived, they found Borys sitting on the ground after being detained by a responding officer. A black backpack was located nearby with what appeared to be a hammer handle visible. Police later recovered a hammer described as having a wooden handle and metal head.

Investigators spoke with a juvenile bicyclist who told police he was riding northbound on Federal Highway when he saw a woman walking in the street with a hammer in her hand. The teen said the woman initially approached a vehicle, then turned and moved toward him when he stopped to record video. He told officers the woman raised the hammer, causing him to fear she would strike him. The juvenile provided video footage that police say shows Borys in the roadway holding the hammer.

Another witness told police he was driving northbound when he saw the woman in the road and reversed his vehicle to avoid her. While he said he was not afraid of being physically harmed because he was inside his car, he believed the woman intended to damage his vehicle.

Based on those statements and the video evidence, police charged Borys with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She was taken into custody and transported to the Boca Raton Police Department.

While Borys was seated in the rear of a marked patrol vehicle following that arrest, a second incident occurred inside the police department parking area, according to a separate probable cause affidavit.

Police say Officer Christian Vivanco was assisting with Borys’ property when he spoke with her through the open window of the patrol car. During that interaction, Borys allegedly spat toward the officer. The affidavit states saliva was visible and struck the officer in the face, including his eye.

Based on that incident, police charged Borys with battery on a law enforcement officer.

Court records list both arrests as involving an unarmed suspect. Borys’ address was listed as “at large” in Fort Lauderdale. Jail records show she was transported to the Palm Beach County Jail following the arrest.
