BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) — Three men from South and Central Florida were arrested after a late-night burglary spree and police chase that began in Boca Raton and ended with a suspect swimming through a backyard canal before being taken into custody.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Palm Beach County, agents with the South Florida Criminal Apprehension Team (SFCAT) had been watching a silver 2021 Mercedes S580 as part of an ongoing burglary investigation. The surveillance cameras at luxury vehicle break-ins captured the car which had its registration in Broward County multiple times.
The suspects, Kayqwon Dangelo Bruton, Jakari Kiandre Aaron, and Tremar W. Haynes, rolled into Boca Raton around 9 p.m. on October 13, investigators wrote. Detectives with SFCAT, the Broward Sheriff’s Office Burglary Apprehension Team, and Boca Raton Police’s Special Investigations Unit tailed them from a distance.
The Mercedes pulled up to a home at on the 500 block of NE 4th Lane, where three hooded figures stepped out and began casing a Mercedes G-Class SUV, according to the affidavit. The group left shortly after, heading south through Deerfield Beach and Pompano Beach before looping back toward Boca hours later. The group returned to Palm Beach County at 3 a.m while using a fake license plate which they had placed over their actual plate to evade police detection according to detectives.
When they returned to NE 4th Lane, one suspect slipped into the victim’s garage and tried to steal the Mercedes G-Class, but the attempt failed. The homeowner later told police that “no one had permission to enter his vehicle.”
Investigators said the suspects drove next to 500 block of Phillips Drive, where they broke into a Lamborghini inside another garage. The ignition had been pried open – clear signs of tampering. The suspects left before they could take the car.
A short time later, agents tracked them to the 7000 block of NE 8th Drive, where two men were seen trying to pry open doors while a homeowner, was still inside. The homeowner later told officers he had not given anyone permission to enter.
The suspects then traveled south on NE 8th and approached NE 70th St where they were met by agents from the SFCAT and BSO BAT teams. As police units lit up the street near NE 70th Street, the Mercedes accelerated instead of stopping. Bruton, identified as the driver, sped off — and at one point, investigators say he steered directly toward a police vehicle, forcing two agents to swerve away.
“The driver of the Mercedes… began to accelerate towards a police vehicle that had its lights and sirens activated,” the affidavit said.
The pursuit reached its conclusion when Bruton leaped from the vehicle at the 6000 block of NE 8th Drive before taking off on foot. He entered the canal before reaching the other side and then he climbed up to the yard of a house located on Appleby Street where he was later found.
Meanwhile, Aaron and Haynes — the other two men — were arrested without incident near the same location. The Mercedes displayed a crowbar which is commonly used in residential burglaries and multiple garage door remotes from unknown locations.
The three suspects received detention at the Palm Beach County Main Detention Center where they stayed until Wednesday according to jail records.
Bruton, 20, of Fort Lauderdale, faces a lengthy list of charges including three counts of burglary to an occupied residence, burglary to an unoccupied conveyance, two counts of aggravated assault on law enforcement, fleeing and eluding, crossing county lines to commit burglary, possession of burglary tools, and resisting without violence.
Aaron, 20, also of Fort Lauderdale, and Haynes, 18, of Crestview, face multiple burglary charges along with counts of possession of burglary tools and crossing county lines to commit burglary.
According to arrest records, the detectives maintained visual observation of all three men throughout the entire night during their county-to-county movements. Each is being held without bond pending their first court appearance.
