BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) — A Miami man was caught shoplifting merchandise valued at almost $5,000 at Saks Fifth Avenue located in the Town Center At Boca Raton on Friday, July 29th, 2022.

While the store was closing up, security personnel observed Luis Daboin Acuna conceal merchandise in his Burberry shopping bag. Once he left the store without paying for the merchandise, they apprehended him.

The following is a narrative from the official arrest report submitted by the Boca Raton Police Department:

On 7/29/22 at 1916 hours I responded to 5800 W Glades Rd (Saks), in reference to shoplifting.

BRPD Dispatch advised that Saks loss prevention apprehended an adult male, later identified as Luis Daboin Acuna. Upon my arrival, I met with Saks Loss Prevention employee Jose Aguilar who advised of the following in a sworn written statement:

“On July 29/2022 I was closing the store at approximately 6:58 pm when I observed a Hispanic male subject selecting two white shirts and concealing them in a Burberry shopping bag. The subject then selected six belts and also concealed them in his Burberry shopping bag. The subject then proceeded towards the valet exit and exited the store. I then approached the subject and identified myself as store Asset Protection. I then escorted the subject to the AP office”

It should be noted Acuna exited the store without paying for the following items: 6 Ferragamo belts, 1 Ferragamo hat, 1 Burberry hat, and 2 Palm Angels T-shirts, for a total value of $4940

I then attempted to speak with Acuna in reference to this incident and had Ofc Mendoza translate his constitutional warnings which he verbally confirmed he understood his rights but refused to speak with me.

At this time Acuna was placed under arrest for Grand Theft. During the search of his person incident to arrest I discovered he was in possession of an Antishoplifting countermeasure device.

Based on the above investigation, probable cause was established, and I placed Luis Daboin Acuna under arrest for one count of felony Grand Theft pursuant to FSS 812.014 and one count of felony possession of Antishoplifting countermeasure device pursuant to 812.015(7). TOT County Jail.

Luis Daboin Acuna, the Miami man with no known ties to Palm Beach County, was booked into the PBSO jail at 10:59 PM on July 29th, 2022, and released the following afternoon without any bond following his felony arrest.
