HOLLYWOOD, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — A 35-year-old man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after Hollywood police said he assaulted a man with a metal object and then intentionally struck him with a vehicle along a busy stretch of State Road 7, leaving the victim in critical condition.
Hollywood Police Department officers were called shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday to the area of Johnson Street and North State Road 7 after reports of a person struck by a vehicle. Officers and Hollywood Fire Rescue responded, and the victim — a 46-year-old man — was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital with serious injuries. As of the department’s latest update, he was listed in the hospital’s intensive care unit in critical condition.
Investigators say the incident began as a confrontation on the sidewalk near the intersection. According to police, the suspect and the victim were involved in an altercation that escalated when the suspect got out of his vehicle and struck the victim multiple times in the head with a metal object.
After the blows, police say the suspect returned to his vehicle and drove onto the sidewalk, striking the victim while he was down. The suspect then left the area before officers arrived.
Court records tied to the arrest describe the initial call as a hit-and-run response and note that officers encountered the victim with a significant head injury. The records state the man was not responsive and was described as unsteady and nonverbal when first responders made contact. He was transported to Memorial Regional for treatment.
Those same records indicate a witness told officers she was with the victim when a verbal dispute started with a man described as driving a gray Tesla. The witness reported that the suspect repeatedly struck the victim in the head with a metal object, then drove the vehicle toward them at a high rate of speed and hit the victim on the sidewalk. Another witness later told police she saw the vehicle stop at a traffic light and was able to capture a photo of the car’s license plate, the records state.
Police said the suspect was taken into custody later Tuesday, around 3:30 p.m., near 2100 Van Buren Street. The department identified the arrestee as Enrique Santana, born Sept. 19, 1990.
Santana was booked on charges that include aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, first-degree attempted homicide, and leaving the scene of a traffic crash with serious bodily injuries, according to police.
The case remains under investigation by the Hollywood Police Department Detective Bureau, and police are asking anyone with information to call the department at 954-967-4636 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
