WEST PALM BEACH, FL (Boca Post) — A 29-year-old Palm Beach Gardens man is in jail this morning following his arrest for a hit and run crash that left a 28-year-old man dead in June of 2021.

At 4:00 AM, on June 27th, 2021, West Palm Beach Police Department responded to a “vehicle versus pedestrian” call near Okeechobee Boulevard and Spencer Drive. The busy intersection, just west of the I-95, is very dangerous for pedestrians.

The victim, 28-year-old Geraldo Vazquez, was declared deceased at St. Mary’s hospital shortly after being transported there as a trauma alert.

According to an arrest affidavit submitted by WPBPD, eyewitnesses observed a black Audi hit the pedestrian and then continue eastbound after the crash. One witness even chased the driver of the black Audi all the way to the City Side condominiums on Congress Avenue. That witness then returned to the scene to tell the cops his story, which included the first three characters of the suspected vehicle’s license plate.

Police found the vehicle in question registered to Robert Hunter Gannon III, who lived at an address within the City Side community. Investigators then went to talk to Gannon who admitted he knew why they were there. Gannon gave consent to have his vehicle searched by investigators who observed major damage to the front of it. Gannon then went to the police station with investigators and was cooperative until the 29-year-old called his father. After police allowed Gannon to call his father, he declined to give a statement.

Gannon did surrender to a DNA test which investigators later used to prove that he matched the DNA profile found in various places within the vehicle.

WPBPD filed for a warrant on 5/2/22 which was then issued on 5/11/22. Gannon was taken into custody on 5/11/22. Gannon is currently in the custody of the PBSO jail with a bond not yet set.

According to local court records, Gannon has a history of driving in an unsafe manner. Some of Gannon’s previous citations received include:

  • CARELESS DRIVING
  • FAILURE TO OBEY HIGH OCCUPANCY VEHICLE LANE REQUIREMENT
  • TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICE (FAIL TO OBEY TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICE (FAILED TO STOP AT TRAFFIC SIGNAL)
  • UNLAWFUL SPEED/COUNTY ROADS (REQUIRES SPEEDS)
  • SEAT BELT – DRIVER/SEAT BELT VIOLATION
  • CARELESS DRIVING – TOO FAST FOR CONDITIONS – CUTTING IN AND OUT OF TRAFFIC, NO SIGNALS
