BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — A Boca Raton woman was arrested after Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence on Venetian Avenue, where investigators say she repeatedly used a stun gun on her daughter’s boyfriend inside a bedroom.
The case stems from an incident on March 17, 2026, at a home in the 11000 block of Venetian Avenue in Boca Raton. Deputies with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched just before 8 a.m. after a 911 call reporting a disturbance involving a man believed to be under the influence and allegedly subject to an active warrant.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Veronica Helena Karlsson, 55, told dispatchers that her daughter’s ex-boyfriend, identified as Jonathan Patrick Navas, was inside the home and that she believed he was using drugs.
When deputies arrived, they encountered Navas leaving the residence. He told deputies he had been at the home with his girlfriend and had been asked to leave. Investigators then made contact with Karlsson inside the residence, where she described an encounter that escalated in her daughter’s bedroom.
Karlsson told deputies she entered the bedroom that morning and found Navas with her daughter. She said she ordered him to leave immediately. When he did not, she retrieved a Taser and told him he needed to leave the home. She stated that Navas appeared dazed and did not comply, prompting her to call 911.
The daughter, identified in the report as Christina Baker, gave a similar account but added that Karlsson used the Taser while standing in the doorway, preventing the couple from leaving the room. Baker told deputies that while there was no initial argument, Karlsson began deploying the Taser as Navas attempted to get dressed and exit.
Navas provided a sworn statement to deputies and said he woke up to Karlsson entering the room. He described being partially undressed when she returned with a Taser and a knife, yelling at him and deploying the Taser multiple times. He told deputies he did not attempt to leave immediately because he was undressed and the child was present in the room.
According to the affidavit, Navas reported being tased approximately five to six times, primarily on his left leg and once on his torso. He also told deputies Karlsson recorded video of the incident on her phone.
Deputies reviewed video footage provided at the scene. The report states the recording showed Karlsson repeatedly activating the Taser in what was described as a “dry stun” manner while Navas was on the bed.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue personnel evaluated Navas at the scene. He reported possible injuries, though responders did not observe visible marks consistent with Taser contact, aside from a mark on his rib area that he believed may have resulted from the incident.
Based on the investigation, deputies arrested Karlsson and charged her with one count of open carrying of a firearm or electric weapon/device, a misdemeanor under Florida Statute 790.053(1).
She was transported to the Palm Beach County Jail and later released on a $250 bond. Court records show the case, styled State of Florida v. Karlsson, Veronica Helena, is assigned case number 50-2026-MM-002142-AXXX-SB and is scheduled for arraignment on April 16, 2026, at the South County Courthouse in Delray Beach.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is the investigating agency. The case will proceed through the Palm Beach County Court system, where a judge will determine how the charge is resolved.
