As stated by the investigators, while serving a Florida prison sentence for aggravated stalking and other charges, Michael Pine showed interest in hiring a hitman to kill his ex-wife. Pine was let go from the South Florida Reception Center in Doral on Feb. 25, and BSO was able to start an undercover operation. During multiple conversations between Pine and an undercover detective, Pine offered to pay $10,000 to kill his ex-wife. Pine told the undercover detective that he holds his ex-wife responsible for him being in prison.

On Wednesday, March 5, in Deerfield Beach, Pine made the $2,000 payment to the undercover detective as a down payment for the murder. On Thursday, March 6, the undercover detective told Pine that the murder had been completed, and Pine promised to pay the remaining $8,000. At that time, BSO detectives arrested Pine for attempting premeditated murder and criminal attempt to solicit a capital felony.

When arrested, Pine admitted to the crime. He was then booked into the Broward County Main Jail. The case was investigated by SID, BSO’s Threat Management Unit, and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Pine is currently in BSO custody while facing the following charges:

  • Attempted Premediated Murder (782.04-1a1)
  • Criminal Attempt To Solicit / Conspire To Commit Capital Felony (777.04-4b)
