POMPANO BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — A Broward Sheriff’s Office sergeant was arrested Wednesday night on multiple domestic violence charges after deputies were called to a domestic disturbance in Pompano Beach.

BSO identified the suspect as Sgt. Scott Nida, 54, who has been with the agency since 2005. He was taken into custody and booked into the Broward County Main Jail on Wednesday, Jan. 7.

BSO Special Victims Unit detectives said Broward County Regional Communications received a report of a domestic disturbance at about 7 p.m. Deputies responded and made contact with Nida and the adult female victim, whose name was not released.

Investigators said they learned a verbal and physical altercation occurred between the two. Detectives said the investigation determined Nida caused the victim injuries to her face and neck during the encounter.

According to SVU detectives, the victim told investigators that during the verbal altercation, Nida grabbed her arm when she tried to leave the residence. She also told detectives he grabbed her face and neck to the point she felt she could not breathe, then pushed her to the ground and dragged her across the lawn.

The victim told detectives that when she was able to free herself, she ran toward her vehicle to try to get away. She said Nida followed, pushed her into the passenger seat, and drove away. The victim told detectives she was eventually able to convince him to let her go.

Nida was arrested on one count of false imprisonment, one count of domestic battery by strangulation, and one count of touch or strike battery, according to BSO.

“Domestic violence is unacceptable especially from someone who is sworn to uphold the law,” Broward Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony said. “When a sworn member is accused of this type of crime, they are held to the same standards as any member of the public.”

BSO said Nida was hired on Jan. 18, 2005, and is currently on administrative investigative leave without pay. The investigation remains ongoing.

  1. I was important for the “NEWS” to show this view of the defendant along with 6 or 7 other Black people in the background. This is not accidental, this was deliberate. White people are constantly trying to paint Black people as “Criminals”, while at the same time….JANUARY 6 RIOTERS are “PATRIOTS”.
