DANIA BEACH, FL (Boca Post) — A Dania Beach maintenance crew found the victim of a motorcycle crash lying in on the ground near the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

From Broward Sheriff’s Office:

A motorcyclist was found dead by a maintenance crew early Thursday morning off Federal Highway and Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit detectives are investigating.
According to investigators, shortly before 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 26, while the maintenance crew was cutting a grass field down an embankment on the east side of Federal Highway near the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, they discovered the victim lying on the ground. BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit detectives and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to the incident. The victim, later identified as Mario Velasquez Castillo, was pronounced deceased on scene.
Preliminary investigation reveals that Castillo was traveling northbound on Federal Highway on a 2004 Yamaha YZF-R1. For undetermined reasons, the motorcycle left the roadway at the left curve and continued through the grass swale, down the embankment and into a tree. He came to a final rest in the field at the bottom of the embankment. The impact with the tree caused the motorcycle to split in half and catch fire.
According to investigators, physical evidence revealed no indication of any other vehicles being involved. Based on the severe damage to the motorcycle, detectives believe excessive speed may have been a factor in this crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
