BELLE GLADE, FL — Three people, including two children, were killed early Tuesday when a pickup truck lost control on Gator Boulevard, left the roadway and overturned into a canal, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
The crash was reported at 7:19 a.m. on July 14 in the 1200 block of Gator Boulevard in Belle Glade, PBSO said in a Traffic Division log entry.
Investigators identified the driver as 48-year-old Joel Rodriguez Roa of Belle Glade. Two child passengers, ages 10 and 5, were also in the pickup, according to deputies. PBSO said next of kin have been notified.
According to PBSO, the driver was traveling east in a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado in the 1200 block of Gator Boulevard when he lost control of the truck for reasons that remain under investigation. The Silverado crossed into the oncoming westbound lane, swerved back and began rotating clockwise, PBSO said. The truck continued to rotate across the eastbound lane, went off the south side of the roadway and overturned into a canal, coming to final rest submerged on its roof, according to deputies.
The driver and both child passengers were pronounced dead at the scene, PBSO said.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash. Investigators reported that drugs and/or alcohol may have been a factor in the fatal crash.
Boca Post is not identifying the name of the children; however, the report indicates that the driver and the children at the same Ave D address in Belle Glade.
