Severe Weather Alert - Sunday, July 12, 2026
BOCA RATON, FL — South Florida is dealing with a dangerous early-evening storm setup Sunday as a severe thunderstorm warning continues for northeastern Palm Beach County through 6:45 p.m. EDT. While the warning is north of Boca Raton, residents in Boca and along the I-95/Florida’s Turnpike corridor should stay weather-aware—storms can expand or drift south with little notice, and heavy rain and gusty winds can quickly impact commutes and outdoor plans.
At 6:06 p.m., the National Weather Service Miami office reported a severe thunderstorm located over North County Airport near Palm Beach Gardens, moving very slowly. Radar indicates the storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail.
Those hazards can damage vehicles, break tree limbs, and cause roof and siding damage—especially in exposed areas and around construction sites. The warning includes West Palm Beach, Jupiter, Palm Beach Gardens, Riviera Beach, Tequesta, Royal Palm Beach, The Acreage, Loxahatchee Groves, Jupiter Farms and nearby communities.
Even outside the warned area—such as Boca Raton—drivers and residents should be prepared for sudden downpours, brief strong wind gusts, and lightning if storms develop or drift south. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm and may lead to flash flooding, particularly in low-lying areas and on roads that typically pond quickly.
What to do now: Move indoors immediately if thunder is heard, and shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. If you’re on the road, slow down in heavy rain and do not drive through flooded streets.
