Today's Weather - Wednesday, July 1, 2026
BOCA RATON, FL — Expect a hot, humid Wednesday with a mix of sun and clouds, then a higher chance of showers and thunderstorms after early afternoon. Highs reach around 90, but it will feel closer to 105 at times. Some storms could bring brief strong wind gusts and very heavy downpours, with localized flooding possible where drainage is poor. Tonight stays warm near 79 with a lower storm chance lingering into the overnight hours
South Florida is sitting in a very summer-like setup today, but with a couple of extra “helpers” that can make storms more active than a typical afternoon. The National Weather Service notes a strong ridge of high pressure aloft remains anchored to our north, while a small disturbance slides in from the Atlantic and passes just north of the area today into Thursday.
Near the ground, a weakening front is stalled across Central Florida, close enough to help focus moisture and lift over our region. That combination is pulling deep tropical moisture into Palm Beach County.
Forecast guidance highlighted in the AFD shows very high moisture levels for early July, which is why storms that form can rain hard in a short time. The sea breeze will still be the main trigger, but boundaries from earlier showers and the nearby front can collide and “spark” stronger storms.
For Boca Raton, the practical impacts are straightforward: plan for heat first, storms second. Temperatures climb to around 90, and the heat index may peak near 105.
Boaters and beachgoers should expect generally manageable seas but changeable conditions near storms. Winds over the Atlantic waters near Boca Raton run light this morning, then trend easterly around 5–10 mph this afternoon, with seas mostly 2 feet (occasionally up to 3 feet offshore).
The Intracoastal should be light chop overall. The main hazard today is thunderstorms: scattered to numerous storms can produce sudden gusty winds, sharp visibility drops in heavy rain, and locally higher seas.
If you’re heading out, plan to be back near safe harbor by early afternoon and watch for lightning.
