BOCA RATON, FL — Expect a hot, mostly sunny Juneteenth with only a small chance of a quick shower or thunderstorm this morning, then a better chance for storms later today and this evening. Highs reach the low 90s, but it will feel closer to 105 during the hottest part of the afternoon. Winds turn southeast and stay breezy at times, which can help a bit but won’t erase the heat. Plan for heat safety if you’re outdoors, and keep an eye out for lightning if storms pop up inland and drift around slowly

South Florida stays in a summer pattern today, but with a few extra ingredients that raise the storm potential going into the weekend. The National Weather Service notes the remnants of Arthur are moving away into the Atlantic, while a smaller disturbance aloft is expected to slide into Central Florida today and Saturday.

At the same time, deeper tropical moisture is in place and the drier “dusty air” influence has weakened, which opens the door for more showers and thunderstorms than we’ve seen recently. For Boca Raton, the day starts mostly sunny and very warm.

A brief shower or thunderstorm is possible this morning, but the better window for storms is mid-afternoon through early evening. With light overall steering winds, any storms that form can move slowly.

That matters because slow movers can dump heavy rain in a short time and create ponding on roads, even if coverage isn’t widespread. Most storms are expected to fire inland as the Atlantic and Gulf sea breezes push toward each other and collide over the interior.

Boaters and beachgoers near Boca Raton will see generally manageable conditions outside of thunderstorms. Today’s coastal waters run with south to southeast winds around 10–15 knots and seas near 2 feet, with light chop in the Intracoastal.

Winds ease and become lighter and more variable this weekend, keeping seas at 2 feet or less most of the time. The main hazard is storms: any thunderstorm can bring sudden gusty winds, rougher seas, and frequent lightning.

If you’re heading out, plan an early return option and watch the sky for building storms later in the day.
