Today's Weather - Friday, May 29, 2026
BOCA RATON, FL — Expect a warm, humid morning with a building chance for showers and thunderstorms later today, especially mid-to-late afternoon and early evening. High temperatures reach around 88, but it will feel closer to 100–101 at times. Winds stay light early, then turn southerly near 5–8 mph as the day goes on. Storms that form could bring brief heavy rain, frequent lightning, and gusty winds before tapering late tonight
South Florida stays in a very moist, summerlike pattern today, and that moisture is the main ingredient for afternoon storms. The National Weather Service notes that tropical humidity is being pulled across Florida on a south-southwest breeze around the edge of the Bermuda High, keeping the air muggy from morning through evening.
With no strong weather system forcing storms to form early, today’s setup leans heavily on the daily sea-breeze cycle. Winds higher up in the atmosphere are generally from the west, which tends to keep the Atlantic sea breeze “pinned” close to the coastline.
For Boca Raton, that means the focus for storm development is likely to be near the coast later in the day, rather than pushing quickly inland. Storms are expected to start firing up around mid-to-late afternoon as the sea breeze sets up, then become more numerous where boundaries collide—especially if the Gulf breeze makes it across the peninsula and meets the Atlantic breeze near the east coast.
The forecast also highlights a second window: after the typical late-day storms, additional evening storms could drift in from central/northern Florida, depending on how storms organize farther north. Temperatures climb to the upper 80s, but the bigger story is heat stress.
For the Boca Raton and Deerfield Beach coastal waters, winds run generally southwest around 5–10 knots today, turning more southerly later, with seas 2 feet or less and only light chop on the Intracoastal. Even with low seas, boaters should plan around scattered showers and thunderstorms—lightning and sudden gusts can create hazardous conditions well away from the rain shaft.
Tonight stays around 5–10 knots with seas still under 2 feet. Looking ahead, a building northerly swell may raise seas over the Gulf Stream early next week, with 2–4 feet possible and occasional higher sets.
