Today's Weather - Thursday, May 21, 2026

BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Sunny and warm conditions will carry Boca Raton through today, with a high near 86 and a steady southeast breeze. It will feel muggy, and the onshore wind will keep the surf zone rougher than it looks. The National Weather Service continues a high rip current risk for Atlantic beaches through this evening. Rain chances stay low today locally, then tick up slightly Friday afternoon with a few spotty showers or storms possible

South Florida’s weather pattern is staying in a familiar groove today, and that’s why the forecast looks steady and straightforward for Boca Raton: sunshine, a persistent ocean breeze, and summerlike warmth. The National Weather Service notes an upper-level ridge (a broad area that favors sinking air and fewer clouds) remains over the Gulf and Florida, while a separate upper-level low lingers well to our east over the western Atlantic.

At the surface, high pressure over the Atlantic continues to extend across the peninsula. Put together, that setup keeps winds blowing in from the east to southeast most of the time.

One important detail in the forecast discussion is a pocket of drier air a few thousand feet up, confirmed by overnight balloon data and aircraft observations. That drier layer helps limit how widespread storms can become, even though there’s still enough low-level moisture for a humid feel.

For Boca Raton, that means a mainly sunny day with only a small chance of a brief shower. The better storm focus today remains away from the immediate east coast, with the sea-breeze boundaries more likely to spark scattered showers and thunderstorms over the interior and toward southwest Florida.

For boaters off Boca Raton (Jupiter Inlet to Deerfield Beach), winds stay out of the southeast around 10–15 knots today, increasing at times with gusts near 20 knots tonight and Friday. Seas run about 2 feet today, building to 2–3 feet tonight and Friday, and potentially 2–4 feet Saturday (occasionally higher), with choppy intracoastal conditions in exposed areas.

Beach impacts are the bigger concern: strong onshore flow is driving a high rip current risk along Atlantic beaches through this evening. Even experienced swimmers should stay near lifeguards and avoid swimming alone.

Any thunderstorm that develops can briefly kick up stronger winds and rougher seas nearby.
