BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Thursday, May 14, 2026 BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Boca Raton will run warm and mostly sunny today, with a high near 87 and a 30% chance of a shower or thunderstorm mainly after 5 p.m. Winds start light from the west, then trend lighter and shift around later, with a sea breeze helping to spark any late-day storms. Tonight looks mostly clear and muggy with a low near 78 and only a small early-evening storm chance. If you’re heading to the beach in Palm Beach County, the rip current risk is elevated today, so swim near a lifeguard and don’t enter rougher surf alone
South Florida’s weather pattern today is being shaped by a weakening front that has slipped south and is fading out near the Florida Straits, according to the National Weather Service forecast discussion out of Miami. For Boca Raton, that setup matters because it brings in drier air aloft, which tends to cap or limit how tall storms can grow.
In plain terms: we’ll have the heat and humidity near the ground, but the atmosphere above it is less supportive of widespread, long-lasting storms. That’s why today’s forecast leans sunny and hot (upper 80s), with storms more dependent on the afternoon sea breeze.
As the Atlantic breeze pushes inland later today, it can collide with other small wind boundaries and briefly kick off a few showers or thunderstorms. The overall coverage should stay scattered, not a washout.
One wrinkle the NWS highlighted is the potential for a small area of low pressure to form along Florida’s east coast later today into tonight. If that feature develops close enough, it could add just enough spin and lift for a quick-hitting stronger storm or a brief, fast “spin-up” type event.
For the Boca Raton area waters (Jupiter Inlet to Deerfield Beach), winds run west 10–15 knots early today, easing and turning northwest to north later, with seas around 2–3 feet. Tonight turns lighter with east winds 5–10 knots and similar 2–3 foot seas.
By Friday into the weekend, onshore east winds strengthen to 10–15 knots, bringing a choppier intracoastal and a more persistent surf. Scattered showers and thunderstorms can create brief bursts of higher winds and rougher seas near storms.
Beach note: a moderate rip current risk is in effect today for Palm Beach County.
