HOLLYWOOD, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — A South Florida man was arrested after Hollywood Police say he shot at two people on the beach, threatened a third victim and then fled officers before crashing near Hallandale Beach Boulevard.
The Hollywood Police Department identified the arrestee as Tyrell Anton Thomas, born July 12, 1995. Police announced the arrest Friday, May 8, in a public records media release labeled as an attempted homicide arrest.

The incident happened Thursday, May 7, shortly after 7 p.m. on the beach at Douglas Street in Hollywood, police said. According to the department, Thomas was involved in an argument with the victims before he went back to his vehicle, retrieved a firearm and returned to the beach.
Police said Thomas then shot at two victims. The victims were not injured.
After the shooting, Thomas was returning to his vehicle when he threatened a third victim, according to Hollywood Police.
Officers located the vehicle as Thomas fled the scene and attempted to make a traffic stop. Police said Thomas refused to stop and fled from officers.
The pursuit ended after Thomas crashed at South Ocean Drive and Hallandale Beach Boulevard, a busy coastal corridor near the Hollywood-Hallandale Beach line. Police said he was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit.
Thomas was charged with two counts of attempted first-degree homicide, one count of aggravated assault with a firearm, one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, one count of wearing a mask or face covering in the commission of a felony, fleeing and eluding, leaving the scene of a crash, and resisting arrest.
The charges mark the start of the criminal court process. Police handle the arrest and initial investigation, while prosecutors are responsible for filing and pursuing formal criminal charges in court. Thomas is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
For residents and visitors, the case centers on a stretch of Hollywood Beach that draws beachgoers, pedestrians and traffic near South Ocean Drive. Police did not report injuries to the shooting victims in the release, but the department said the incident involved shots fired at two people, a threat to a third victim, a vehicle pursuit, a crash and a foot chase before the arrest.
