BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Sunshine dominates this morning and much of the day, with highs near 81 and an east breeze developing this afternoon. Conditions turn unsettled tonight as showers and thunderstorms become likely, with a 60% chance of rain and locally heavy downpours possible. Northeast winds increase overnight and turn windy Sunday, when periods of rain and a few storms continue and highs cool to the mid-70s. Beach and boating conditions deteriorate quickly late today through Sunday, with dangerous surf and a high rip current risk along the Atlantic coast
Boca Raton’s weather is set up for a “calm before the change” kind of weekend. Early today, South Florida sits under a generally stable, dry pattern aloft, which supports the sunny start and light winds around daybreak.
The National Weather Service also notes a chance for patchy fog inland early this morning, but along the coast the bigger story is what arrives later today and tonight. A front moving down through the Southeast is expected to reach South Florida this afternoon into early evening.
Ahead of it, moisture increases and daytime heating helps spark scattered showers, with a few thunderstorms possible—especially where local breezes collide. Even with some drier air higher up limiting how tall storms can grow, brief heavy rain is still possible in spots.
After the front passes, winds ramp up quickly from the northeast as the pressure difference tightens over the region. For Boca Raton and the immediate east coast, this is when impacts increase: gusty winds tonight into Sunday, rough travel for high-profile vehicles near the coast, and choppy conditions on the Intracoastal in exposed areas.
Marine conditions deteriorate fast late today and tonight. Winds shift to strong northeast and increase to 20–30 knots, with very rough conditions in exposed Intracoastal waters.
Offshore Atlantic seas build sharply—forecast to reach 8–11 feet Sunday, with higher occasional sets possible—making boating hazardous and potentially dangerous, especially near inlets. Along Boca Raton’s beaches, the onshore wind and building surf support a high rip current risk, expanding and persisting into early week.
Expect pounding surf, strong longshore currents, and hazardous swimming conditions; beachgoers should stay out of the water when red flags are posted.
