BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) —FAU Police arrested Joseph Alejandro Ramos, 28, after a woman reported he grabbed her by the neck during an argument that began at his Boca Raton apartment and later continued in a campus parking lot, according to a sworn probable-cause affidavit.

The report places the start of the dispute around 6 p.m. at Ramos’s apartment after the pair returned from a football game. The woman said Ramos came into the bathroom, called her a vulgar name, and took her cellphone, throwing it into the toilet. She told police she then grabbed Ramos’ phone and threw it into the shower. She dressed and left for her dorm at FAU.

Around 6:20 p.m., Ramos arrived at FAU’s University Apartments area (Lot 60) and met the woman in her vehicle, the affidavit states. While they were talking, “Ramos suddenly grabbed [her] by her neck and then let go,” according to the report. She exited the car. Ramos allegedly tossed her purse into a grassy area before leaving.

The officer wrote that he observed and photographed visible marks on the woman’s neck. Based on her statement and his observations, police said they had probable cause to charge Ramos with misdemeanor battery (touch or strike) under Florida Statute 784.03(1)(a)(1). The affidavit lists the location as 777 Glades Road near Building 58 and notes the officer’s body-worn camera was activated.

Editor’s note: The affidavit includes a Marsy’s Law designation from FAU Police. Regardless, Boca Post is not identifying the alleged victim in this case.

Jail records show Ramos was booked into the Palm Beach County Main Detention Center at 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 10, 2025, on a Battery charge. The record lists FAU Police as the arresting agency, a $5,000 surety bond, and a same-day release at 10:20 p.m.

The case remains pending. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

  1. You send you daughter to school and she’s getting chocked out by a 28 year old in her dorm parking lot…..unreal.

  2. Maybe the daughter shouldn’t be sleeping with a low IQ 28 year old. She is there to study, not to play house.
