Tyler Baeder, 27, Arrested

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — A 27-year-old Rhode Island man was arrested after making a false bomb threat at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

Detectives from the Broward Sheriff’s Office Threat Management Unit apprehended a man from Rhode Island on charges of making bomb threats at Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport (FLL) on Sunday evening.

The incident occurred at approximately 5;26 p.m. On December 17th. According to investigators, BSO deputies were alerted to a potential bomb threat in Terminal 1, located at 50 Terminal Drive at FLL. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with an airport employee who informed them that Tyler Baeder had stated, “Call the police, I have a bomb in my bag.”

A preliminary investigation revealed that Baeder made this statement out of frustration while encountering difficulties using a self service kiosk for check in. The employee immediately informed the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), who then contacted BSO deputies. Without delay, deputies took Baeder into custody and evacuated the upper level of Terminal 1.

BSO’s Bomb Squad and Threat Management Unit detectives were promptly notified and arrived to conduct an investigation. They thoroughly examined Baeder’s belongings and determined that the threat was baseless.

Currently, Baeder is being held at BSO North Broward on charges of falsely reporting the planting of a bomb, explosive device or weapon of mass destruction as well as resisting arrest without violence.

The investigation remains ongoing.
