OAKLAND PARK, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Two people were killed and one person was injured Thursday night after a violent two-vehicle crash on North Powerline Road in Oakland Park, prompting an ongoing traffic homicide investigation by the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened around 7:14 p.m. on Jan. 15 in the 4000 block of North Powerline Road, near the intersection with Northwest 40th Street, a heavily traveled north-south corridor that connects several Broward County neighborhoods and commercial areas.

Investigators say Ernest Ceaser, 34, of Fort Lauderdale, was driving a black 2024 Ford Mustang Coupe northbound on North Powerline Road as he approached Northwest 40th Street. At the same time, Clarice McCall was driving a black 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe southbound on Powerline Road with a passenger, identified as Teddy McCall, also an adult.

According to the preliminary investigation, the Tahoe attempted a left turn to head eastbound onto Northwest 40th Street. During that turn, the Mustang struck the Tahoe in a T-bone style collision.

The impact was severe.

Deputies with the Broward Sheriff’s Office and Oakland Park Fire Rescue responded to the scene. Ceaser, the driver of the Mustang, was pronounced dead at the scene. Teddy McCall, the passenger in the Tahoe, also died at the scene.

Clarice McCall suffered injuries that investigators described as not life-threatening. She was treated by paramedics and transported to a local hospital for further care. Her name and certain identifying details are protected under Marsy’s Law, Florida’s crime victims’ rights amendment.

Traffic homicide detectives determined that excessive speed by the Mustang’s driver was a contributing factor in the crash. No additional contributing causes have been released, and investigators have not indicated whether impairment, distraction, or roadway conditions played a role.

The investigation remains active.

North Powerline Road was partially closed during the response and investigation as deputies documented the scene and cleared debris. The roadway has since reopened.

Fatal crashes along major Broward County corridors continue to draw attention to speed-related collisions, particularly during evening hours when traffic volumes remain high and visibility begins to drop.

Authorities have not announced whether any charges will be filed. In fatal traffic cases, findings from the Traffic Homicide Unit are typically reviewed by prosecutors after the investigation is completed.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant information is urged to contact the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
