The incident unfolded shortly before 1 a.m. in the 100 block of Northeast 41st Street.
Broward Sheriff’s Office district deputies were dispatched at about 12:56 a.m. following a report of a domestic disturbance in the area. When deputies arrived, they entered a residence and found an adult woman suffering from multiple injuries, including stab wounds.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies also made contact with a man inside the home identified as Mario Alejandro Ramirez, 37, of Oakland Park. Investigators said Ramirez appeared to be suffering from self-inflicted injuries when deputies encountered him.
According to BSO, deputies struggled with Ramirez while simultaneously applying pressure to control his bleeding. The situation was brought under control, and Ramirez was taken into custody at the scene.
Oakland Park Fire Rescue transported Ramirez to Broward Health Medical Center for treatment following his arrest.
Detectives from the Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit responded and assumed control of the investigation. Authorities said the victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
