BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Boca Raton stays sunny but chilly today with a freeze warning early, gusty northwest winds, and dangerous rip currents and large surf along the beach.

Today’s Weather – Monday, February 2, 2026

Boca Raton is waking up to the kind of cold that stops you for a second when you step outside. The National Weather Service forecast for 2 miles ESE of Boca Raton Airport calls for sunny skies today, but it is still a winter setup for South Florida standards, with wind chill values as low as 28 early this morning.

Today will be bright and dry. The high is expected to top out near 57. The catch is the wind. Northwest winds around 14 mph are forecast, with gusts up to 22 mph. That breeze will be most noticeable along the I 95 corridor, on east west roads like Glades Road, and anywhere you are out in the open, including the Intracoastal and the beach. Even inland toward Lyons Road and the western suburbs, the air stays dry and crisp today.

There is no rain in the forecast for today, and the overall pattern stays controlled by strong high pressure pushing cool, dry air into the region. The National Weather Service discussion says the airmass remains very dry across South Florida, which lines up with the clear skies and the sharp morning chill.

If you are heading out early, plan on winter layers. A hat and gloves will not feel out of place, especially in the first couple of hours after sunrise. It is also a morning where people with outdoor pets, seniors, and anyone without reliable heat needs to be checked on. The weather service warning text notes that prolonged exposure to very cold temperatures can lead to hypothermia, and it specifically urges people to use portable heaters correctly and to avoid running grills or generators indoors.

Tonight stays quiet but still cool. The forecast calls for mostly clear skies with a low around 44. Northwest winds around 11 mph continue overnight, which can keep it feeling colder than the thermometer suggests, especially in open areas and near the water.

Beach and boating conditions are the bigger local impact today, even with sunshine. A high rip current risk is in effect for the Atlantic beaches, and Palm Beach County also has a high surf advisory. Large breaking waves of 6 to 8 feet are expected in the surf zone. The advisory text warns that rip currents can sweep even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water, and it urges inexperienced swimmers to stay out of the water. The guidance is simple: swim near a lifeguard, and if caught in a rip current, relax and float, do not fight straight back toward shore, and try to move parallel along the shoreline.

For the marine forecast off the local coastline, hazardous conditions are expected. A Small Craft Advisory is in effect, with northwest winds and rough seas. The forecast for coastal waters from Jupiter Inlet to Deerfield Beach out 20 nautical miles calls for northwest winds 20 to 25 knots today, seas 7 to 10 feet with occasional sets up to 13 feet, and a moderate chop on the Intracoastal. Tonight, winds shift to north at 15 to 20 knots with gusts up to 25 knots, and seas remain high, 6 to 9 feet with occasional 11 foot seas, gradually easing after midnight.

Current Advisories / Watches / Warnings

The National Weather Service page lists the following active products for the Boca Raton area and nearby zones:

  • High Rip Current Risk now in effect through Tuesday evening for Atlantic beaches.
  • High Surf Advisory in effect from 7 AM Monday to 7 AM Tuesday for Palm Beach County beaches, with 6 to 8 foot breaking waves expected in the surf zone.
  • Freeze Warning in effect until 9 AM Monday with temperatures as low as 28, with frost and freeze conditions that could damage sensitive plants and possibly unprotected outdoor plumbing.
  • Cold Weather Advisory in effect until 10 AM Monday with wind chills in the mid 20s. The advisory also notes you can call 211 if you do not have heat or lack shelter and need help locating cold weather resources.
  • Small Craft Advisory remains in effect until 7 AM Tuesday for the Atlantic waters, with northwest winds 15 to 25 knots, gusts up to 30 knots, and seas 7 to 12 feet expected.
