NEW DETAILS: Police Seized Cash, Drugs After Tip Launched Boca Raton Trafficking Case

BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — A man listed in arrest paperwork as the owner of Kanpai in Boca Raton was arrested on cocaine trafficking and multiple drug charges after a traffic stop near Palmetto Park Road and A1A, according to police documents.

Jimmy H. Sun was taken into custody Thursday, Feb. 19, after Boca Raton Police Department officers stopped a white Toyota Tacoma pickup and searched it during a crime suppression detail, investigators wrote. Sun’s arrest report lists his occupation as “Owner” and identifies his business as Kanpai, with an address on North Federal Highway in Boca Raton.

Police said the traffic stop began after narcotics detectives observed the pickup fail to stop at a stop sign on Olive Way. The stop took place as a Boca Raton Police tactical team was conducting a crime suppression operation in the area of Palmetto Park Road and A1A, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Investigators said officers contacted Sun as the sole occupant of the vehicle. During the stop, police wrote that Sun initially was not cooperative when asked to exit the truck, but later complied. He was then placed in handcuffs for officer safety, according to the affidavit.

A trained narcotics detection dog was brought to the scene and conducted an open-air sniff of the vehicle, police wrote. The dog gave what investigators described as a confirmed final response indicating the odor of narcotics, which police said established probable cause to search.

During the search, investigators said they located multiple baggies of suspected cocaine in different areas of the vehicle. Police wrote that additional suspected narcotics were found in a backpack located behind the driver’s seat, with items packaged in separate bags.

In the documents, police listed multiple weights of suspected cocaine recovered, including baggies described as 3.2 grams, 5.5 grams, and 1.4 grams, along with additional quantities later detailed in a supplement. Police said a baggie containing 64 grams of cocaine was located between the driver’s seat and the center console.

The supplement also lists additional suspected cocaine, pills, and other substances, including a larger quantity recorded as 319.7 grams of cocaine. Investigators documented other items they wrote were packaged separately, including suspected MDMA and what police identified as amphetamines and oxycodone.

Police wrote that field testing was conducted using a Trace Eye-D test kit and that suspected cocaine tested positive, producing a blue reaction. Investigators said oxycodone and amphetamines were identified using TruNarc Laser equipment, and MDMA was also identified, according to the supplement.

The documents state the total weights packaged and submitted into evidence included 431.4 grams of cocaine, 1.4 grams of MDMA, 32.8 grams of amphetamines described as 63 pills and related material, and 12 oxycodone pills listed as 27.1 grams with a container.

In addition to the vehicle search, investigators wrote that while Sun was seated in a marked police unit, a small baggie of white powder was located in his right front pocket and tested positive for cocaine using the Trace Eye-D field test kit.

Sun was arrested and booked on one count of trafficking in cocaine and three counts of possession with intent to sell controlled substances, according to police paperwork. The listed charges include trafficking in cocaine under Florida law, along with possession with intent to sell MDMA, oxycodone, and amphetamines.

Police documents say the vehicle was towed and that Sun was issued a citation tied to the alleged traffic violation that led to the stop. He was transported for booking and then taken to the Palm Beach County Jail, according to the report.

What happens next will be handled in the criminal court process, where prosecutors will review the arrest and determine how the case proceeds. Records show the arrest was made by the Boca Raton Police Department, which is the investigating agency listed on the paperwork.
