Nitin Mathew Charged With Aggravated Assault And Kidnapping

PBSO has identified the suspect as 37-year-old Nitin Mathew of the 5300 block of Madison Road, in the Country Club Acres community located in unincorporated Delray Beach. According to arrest records, Nitin lives at the same address where deputies later shot him and his mother who he held at knifepoint.

BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) — Two people are in the hospital this morning after PBSO responded to a suicide attempt in Delray Beach which resulted in a deputy-involved shooting.

The Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office tells Boca Post that deputies responded to an armed attempted suicide on the 5300 block of Madison Road, in the Country Club Acres community located in unincorporated Delray Beach at approximately 9:36 PM on Tuesday, October 4th, 2022.

Upon arrival deputies located a male threatening to stab his mother and commit suicide. Deputies began a dialogue with the individual and at some point, during their dialogue, the individual/suspect grabs his mother and threatens to kill her.

A PBSO deputy discharged his firearm striking the individual in the shoulder and the mother in the elbow.

Both the suspect and mother were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Once the suspect is released from the hospital he will be charged with the following:

  • Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (domestic)
  • Attempted murder
  • False imprisonment while armed

The PBSO deputy involved in the shooting is on paid administrative leave which is standard department protocol.

PBSO tells Boca Post that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident along with PBSO Violent Crimes detectives, and the State Attorney’s Office investigators.

This deputy-involved shooting comes only days after another mishap where a PBSO deputy shoots another deputy during a search warrant in Palm Beach County.
