WEST PALM BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — A fatal crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV left one person dead late Thursday night in West Palm Beach, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
The collision happened around 9:35 p.m. at the intersection of Southern Boulevard and Caroline Drive. Investigators say a 2000 Suzuki GSX750 motorcycle was traveling westbound on Southern Boulevard at a high rate of speed as it approached the intersection. At the same time, a 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander was traveling eastbound on Southern Boulevard and attempting to turn north onto Caroline Drive. As the SUV moved through the northbound turn, the motorcycle struck the passenger side of the vehicle.
During the impact, the motorcycle’s driver, identified as 22-year-old Jeferson Barrera Varela of West Palm Beach, was ejected and came to rest on the sidewalk at the northwest corner of the intersection. The motorcycle came to a stop in the right lane of the roadway. The SUV overturned onto its driver side and came to rest on Caroline Drive just north of Southern Boulevard. The SUV driver was able to exit the vehicle.
Investigators say Barrera Varela died at the scene The driver of the SUV, identified as Lauve Quetant, 51, of Royal Palm Beach, was not reported to have sustained injuries.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.
