According to PBSO, a Chevrolet Equinox driven by Segall Braithwaite of Clewiston was eastbound on State Road 80 in the 19000 block, in the outside lane. At the same time, a scooter, driven by Louis Capazzoli, was traveling eastbound on State Road 80, in the outside lane, in front of Braithwaite.

Deputies say Braithwaite failed to slow for Capazzoli, who was traveling slower, before he struck the scooter. As a result of the collision, Capazzoli was ejected from the scooter and struck the roadway. Capazzoli slid eastbound on State Road 80 and came to rest in the center eastbound lane of State Road 80. Capazzoli’s scooter overturned and was redirected in a northeast direction coming to rest near the center median in the inside eastbound lane. Capazzoli then traveled in a northeast direction, post collision, crossed over the center median and struck a speed limit sign in the median. Braithwaite came to rest in the center median facing east.

Capazzoli was pronounced deceased on scene by Palm Beach County Fire Rescue due to injuries sustained during the collision. Braithwaite was transported to Palms West Hospital for minor injuries sustained during the collision.

PBSO indicates that alcohol and/or drugs may be a factor in the crash.
