Today’s Weather – Saturday, February 28, 2026

BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Boca Raton is waking up with a familiar early-morning issue for late February. Patchy fog is expected before 10 a.m., which can make the usual routes feel tighter than normal, especially near the I-95 corridor, Glades Road crossings, and the west side where visibility can drop fast around sunrise.

After that fog burns off, the day trends brighter. The National Weather Service forecast for the Boca Raton area calls for partly sunny skies with a high near 81 degrees. It stays warm, but not oppressive. The bigger question today is timing. Rain chances are in play, and the window tightens later in the day.

Showers are possible, and thunderstorms are also possible after 4 p.m. The chance of precipitation is 50% for Boca. Most rainfall amounts are expected to be light, less than a tenth of an inch, but higher totals can happen if a thunderstorm moves directly over your neighborhood.

Winds start out of the southwest at 5 to 9 mph, then shift southeast in the afternoon as the sea breeze develops. That sea-breeze turn is a familiar Boca setup, and it matters because it can help nudge storms toward the coast late in the day, including the beachside neighborhoods and the Intracoastal communities.

The broader South Florida pattern points to an approaching frontal boundary and an increase in shower and thunderstorm chances this afternoon. The area forecast discussion notes the main focus for stronger storms is expected closer to the Lake Okeechobee region late this afternoon into early evening, with storms eventually pushing off the Palm Beach coast. For Boca, that lines up with the late-day thunder mention and the 50% rain chance. Hazards mentioned in the discussion with this setup include gusty winds, small hail, and a non-zero chance of a quick spin-up tornado in this type of pattern, with the stronger risk area highlighted around Lake Okeechobee.

For tonight in Boca, showers and thunderstorms remain possible, mainly before 3 a.m. The chance drops to 40% overnight. Skies stay mostly cloudy with a low around 67. Winds shift from southeast around 5 mph to northeast in the evening.

If you are planning time outdoors today, the cleanest stretch should be late morning into early afternoon after the fog clears, before the thunderstorm window becomes more likely later in the day. If you are driving early, slow down and give yourself extra room, especially on bridges and west-to-east runs like Glades and Palmetto Park where conditions can flip quickly in fog.

Marine conditions are relatively calm through the weekend outside of any thunderstorms. For the coastal waters from Jupiter Inlet to Deerfield Beach, winds are around 10 knots today, becoming southerly late, with seas less than 2 feet. The marine forecast also carries a chance of showers and thunderstorms today. Conditions remain fairly benign tonight with east winds 5 to 10 knots and seas around 2 feet after midnight, but storms and showers are still in the picture.

At the beach, the forecast discussion calls for a low risk of rip currents across South Florida beaches today due to light winds. That could change next week as onshore winds increase, but for today, rip current risk remains low in the official discussion.
